Solid article. For a very large percentage of us, the primary political goal was getting trump out of office. However, when you’re a guaranteed voting block easily pacified with personality, promise and symbolism instead of actual policy, you wind up fighting for crumbs and leftovers. Some of us are learning the hard way that elections have consequences, and so does bad politics. Good luck to us all…🤞🏾

Well said in the comment and article. Unfortunately, I and many others could have read the writing on the wall about the sea of change for HBCU attention. In fact, HBCU Digest After Dark brought up the issue of waning attention to HBCUs. As a community, there is an unfortunate allegiance to a political or party who seem to forget who got them there in the first place. Do you hear the lyrics from that old Ginuwine song “Only When Your Lonely”? That is the Democrats’, their Black surrogates’, and many politicians’ M.O. when it comes to HBCUs (and the Black American community overall). There comes a time when it is time to chant Ms. Jackson’s song of “What have you done for me lately?” and not settle for the crumbs and leftovers that Brandon so well-spoke of. Otherwise, it will be time to umm, take our talents, money (which we need to “invest in politicians”), and votes to someone else who will appreciate us and reward us handsomely with a piece of the pie and not the crumb.

Facts. Many of us struggle daily not to yell “We told you so” at the Black mainstream political class and their supporters, both of whose voting records reflect blind loyalty to the democratic party. IMHO, by the time enough of us realize our votes have to be leveraged for policy regardless of political affiliation, many HBCUs will have fallen by the wayside.

Say it to the people in the back. I agree with Dr. Claud Anderson’s Building Blocks of Group Economics where he said to “invest” in politicians that will best serve your purposes. It is funny how politicians tend to pay close attention when Mr. Franklin, Hamilton, and Jackson in present. But, if the community cannot join, then individuals need to act like the MVP on the sports team and take the ball to the goal. Otherwise, we will be waiting until the ice caps melt.
