Hampton University this week announced plans to offer free summer session tuition and housing to students displaced by Russian military aggression in Ukraine. “The collective Hampton University faculty, staff and students are heart-broken because the war-torn country of Ukraine must deal with atrocities like the bombing of maternity wards, hospitals, and other civilian areas,” said Hampton University President, Dr. William R. Harvey. “I think this partnership is something that can be beneficial to a great number of students and families. My entire career has been focused on helping people to achieve and meet their goals.”
On one hand, this is a political chess move which could pay dividends now and down the road.
Equally true is these “broken hearts” and freebies were missing as Black & Brown students in Libya, Syria, Yemen, Palestine, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Iraq suffered bombings, atrocities and displacement thanks to US & NATO allied military aggression. Oh well…
