MacKenzie Scott, the most prolific donor in HBCU history with billions of dollars coming to hundreds of institutions in the higher education sector, today announced more than $2.7 billion in funding for a list of more than 200 organizations and schools that for the first time, did not include historically Black institutions.
It was not surprising that the spigot from MacKenzie would dry up. However, there are plenty of avenues to tap for resources and help. However, many HBCU administrators need to do the work and not wait for people to come to them. Invest in the funding infrastructure and diversify to ensure there is a flow of resources to sustain and grow regardless of the times.
