When it comes to supporting HBCUs, many in this country and Black America tend to give lip service or symbolic gestures. The same could be said about Black businesses. Unfortunately, having to many opportunities to attend higher education has come at the expense of HBCUs. Also, there is still a belief that HBCUs have outlived their usefulness and inferior. Unless HBCU administrators, board, and alumni bring a more aggressive approach, these institutions will be a footnote to change rather than the author.
